Epitalon, also spelled epithalon, is the compound at the center of most online conversations about peptides and longevity. The claims attached to it are unusually large, which is exactly why it deserves a careful account. It is a four amino acid peptide with a genuine research history, most of it conducted by one research group, and almost none of it in the form of large independent human trials. Body Works discusses epitalon as an investigational compound.
Epitalon is a tetrapeptide, meaning a chain of just four amino acids: alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and glycine, often abbreviated AEDG. It was synthesized to match the amino acid composition of epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland, the small structure in the brain that produces melatonin and helps regulate circadian rhythm.
The research program behind it was led largely by Vladimir Khavinson and Vladimir Anisimov at the Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. That single-group concentration is worth knowing, because independent replication is one of the main things that turns a promising finding into an established one.
The interest in epitalon traces to laboratory work on telomeres, the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes that shorten each time a cell divides. A frequently cited 2003 study found that adding the peptide to cultured human fetal fibroblasts induced expression of the catalytic subunit of telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds telomeres, along with telomere elongation in cells that had been telomerase-negative.
That is a real finding, and it is also a finding in cells in a dish. Extending it to claims about human lifespan skips several very large steps. Research has also examined effects on melatonin synthesis and various enzyme activities, but the honest summary is that epitalon is an actively studied compound rather than a demonstrated human anti-aging therapy.
Patients and providers most often turn to Epitalon for these benefits:
Individual results vary. Ask your provider whether Epitalon fits your goals and health history.

They are the same compound with two common spellings. Epitalon is a four amino acid peptide, alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and glycine, synthesized to match the composition of epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland. You will see it written both ways in research and online.
Laboratory research found that epitalon induced telomerase activity and telomere elongation in cultured human fibroblasts. That result is from cells in a dish, not from a human trial measuring health outcomes or lifespan. Treating a cell culture finding as proof of an anti-aging effect in people is a significant overstatement.
Independent large-scale human trial evidence is limited. Most of the research has come from a single group in St. Petersburg over roughly 25 years, using laboratory, animal, and computational methods along with some clinical work. Independent replication is what the evidence base is missing.
